About the Legion of MaryDo you wish to enrich your faith-life in a practical way?Do you feel a yearning that others should know and experience the love of Jesus and His Mother Mary more fully?Enriched by members from all sections of the parish community, including working or retired men and women, the Legion of Mary is one of the largest lay apostolates in the Catholic Church.Its core aim is to nurture the personal sanctification of its members and to bring others to know the love of Jesus - through His Mother Mary; to this end, members engage in various works of evangelization.The spirit of the Legion of Mary is that of the Blessed Virgin herself, most especially her profound humility, prayer, and self-sacrificial love.

What does the Legion of Mary do?
Members consecrate their lives and their actions to the Immaculate Heart of Mary through a balanced program of:
1. Prayer: especially the Most Holy Rosary
2. Actions: as instruments of the Holy Spirit, active members (see ‘membership’) undertake practical works of service as part of their daily lives that courageously and intentionally strive to share the love of Jesus and the Catholic Faith through the tender intercession of Mary, as the only route to true happiness on earth and forever in heaven.
Works include visiting the sick, prison ministry, serving the poor, hospitality, catechesis and other pastoral works.

Membership

There are two types of membership of the Legion of Mary:
1. Active: we meet once a week for about an hour, for prayer, recitation of the Holy Rosary and preparation for undertaking a practical and courageous weekly apostolic work of love in union with Mary.
2. Auxiliary: members pray in communion with active members through daily recitation of the Holy Rosary and other short prayers i.e. Mary’s great Magnificat.
